Biography

Teaching

I transitioned to teaching in the BSW program at DSC in August 2016. Since then, my teaching focus has been on clinical and practice classes. I started as the Director of Practicum Education in August 2020, where I have been able to extend community connections and partnerships to expand our students' internship experiences through various experiential learning opportunities. I manage all aspects of the practicum education program in the BSW program for all junior and senior-level internships.

Research Focus

My current research focus integrates transformational learning theory within an anti-oppressive framework. My research focuses on understanding the impact of multi-systemic changes at the program, faculty, and student levels, integrating best practices for anti-racist practice and pedagogy. My research methodology utilizes an action research model focusing on quantitative and qualitative data collection methods. I have completed my dissertation research, and my full dissertation will be published and available in February 2024. Following the completion of my doctoral research, I intend to shift my research focus to mental health and our local Dalton community, focusing on expanding services for our local Hispanic population and increasing the number of culturally competent and bilingual clinicians.

Clinical Experience

I am an experienced clinical social worker with over fifteen years of social work practice experience. I have been a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) for over ten years. I have worked in various mental health settings, including inpatient psychiatric settings, insurance-based behavioral health programs, and community mental health. I have provided clinical supervision to BSW interns, MSW interns, and masters-level licensed professionals seeking full clinical licensure. I currently own and provide clinical and administrative oversight to a private mental health agency in Dalton, GA. I provide clinical services and oversee the operations of the practice. The practice currently has five Licensed Clinical Social Workers (LCSWs), four Licensed Master Social Workers (LMSWs), and one MSW intern. Of our clinicians, six are bilingual in Spanish/English.

We focus on providing culturally competent, ethical, quality mental health services. We also provide professional development services and continued education training dedicated to the enhancement and professional growth of our local community social workers.
